Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients

 

  • 2 sticks margarine

  • 1-1/2 cups sugar

  • 3 heaping tbs. Nestles Sweet Milk Chocolate

  • 2  oz. bottle red food coloring

  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract

  • 3 egg yolks

  • 2-1/2 cups cake flour

  • 3 whites, beaten stiff

  • 1/4 tsp. salt

  • 1 tbs. vinegar

  • 1 tsp. baking soda

  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • 5 tbs.  flour

  • 1 cup milk

  • 2 sticks margarine

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 tsp. vanilla 

 

Preparation

 

Cream 2 sticks margarine & 1 1/2 cups sugar until light & fluffy.  Add food coloring, vanilla, & egg yolks.  Sift flour, chocolate, salt, & soda together 3 times.  Add to sugar mixture alternately with buttermilk & vinegar.  Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.   Pour into 3 cake pans.  Bake at 350 for approximately 25 minutes.

 

Icing:

Combine 5 tbs. flour & 1 cup milk.   Cook to Pudding stage.  Beat until creamy & set aside to cool.  Cream 2 sticks margarine, 1 cup sugar, & 1 tsp. vanilla.  Add cooled flour mixture.   Spread between layers & top & sides of cake.
