Stone Ground Grits
& Corn Meal
When
yellow or white corn kernels are coarsely milled,
they are called Grits.
When the corn is milled into smaller granules, Corn
Meal and corn flour are created.
Grits are made from coarsely ground,
dried corn. Often referred to as “the first
truly American food” grits were first made by
Native Americans dating back as far as 1607 when the
colonists arrived in Virginia.
Grits have a down home flavor and have
been a staple at the Southern breakfast table from
the time of our early settlers however grits are not
just a breakfast food. Cornmeal grits may be eaten
as a side dish, an appetizer or even as a main meal.
